Life Listed: Learn How to Change the Oil

A couple weeks ago, I learned that I'd been accepted into the Toyota Women's Influencer Network, or TWIN for short. Yup, it's TWIN(s)! As part of TWIN, I get to work directly with a company that I've literally known my entire life- I'm a born and raised Toyota gal sice my parents brought me home from the hospital in their Camry.  I learned how to drive in a Toyota, Ironically, though, as much as I love my own Toyota (lil blue), I know absolutely nothing about how cars actually function outside of the combustion engine lecture we had in Physics for Future Presidents one day, and the time my date and I got a flat tire before winter formal and had to change the tire in our spiffed up gear. (Yes, I took PFFP and it was AWESOME. Listen to the lectures.) Anyways, back to cars. I know how to drive, I know what I like to drive... I just don't really know how they work or what to do when something mechanical goes awry. That's why another item on my life list is to learn how to change the oil in my car.

I'm sure I could offer up some weird Freudian/pseudo-psychological explanation for wanting to learn how to do it (my daddy never taught me, youguys!), but I think it's more me being a bit of a stubbornly independent gal. For some reason, "car stuff" is still one of those things that has retained its gender roles in society... and hell if I'm not going to learn about something just because it's seen as a "guy" thing to do.  I like my power tools and getting dirty sometimes, thankyouverymuch! That, and it seems ridiculous to plunk down $30+ every time I need an oil change, since it's apparently so easy to do.

I'm curious- how many of you know how to change the oil in your car/have done it before? Is this a weird skill to want to have in my wheelhouse? (pun intended) Someone want to come out and teach me?
